About This Item
London: Thorton Butterworth Limited, 1927. 1st Edition First British edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Book is in excellent though very slightly faded,( or it is a very dull green cloth). Spine is NOT bumped and corners are sharp. Book has long interesting inscription dated, Jan.16, 1941, " This is a copy of the first British Edition of the Island.... 'can't read it), It was called the Defeated in England. It is a biographical curiosity on account of the mis-spelling of the author's name on the dust-jacket. signed LUDWIG LEWISCHN". Jacket is good with an interesting note above the title by the author, " The Island Within". I assume that is the title he wanted. Jacket Has numerous small chips and soil, and is extensively repaired to verso. the price of 7/6net. is in the center of the front of the jacket as is the authors stamp with the correct spelling of his name and his address is France. ( I don't think he was happy with his publishers.)
