About This Item

Franklin Center, Pennsylvania: Franklin Library, 1981. Limited Edition. Like New. SIGNED on a special bound-in page by James Dickey. The book is tight and square with sharp corners. Textblock is clean with no writing, bookplate, or marks. Color illustrations by Barron Storey. Features premium hand-cut full leather boards with a distinct cover design in ornate 22-karat gold gild, hubbed spine, silk moire endpapers, and a sewn-in satin bookmark. The page edges are gold gilded and pristine. Includes a new introduction by James Dickey and Notes from the Editor pamphlet.

Deliverance tells the story of four mild, middle-class men from suburban Atlanta who embark on a canoe trip, snaking down a remote Georgia river that will soon disappear beneath a dam. In the woods they find boiling rapids and two sinister mountain men. Before the novel is over, the carnage is nearly complete: three men have been crudely buried, one has been raped, and the survivors have had the bark peeled from their modern sensibilities.

Synopsis

The setting is the Georgia wilderness, where the states most remote white-water river awaits. In the thundering froth of that river, in its echoing stone canyons, four men on a canoe trip discover a freedom and exhilaration beyond compare. And then, in a moment of horror, the adventure turns into a struggle for survival as one man becomes a human hunter who is offered his own harrowing deliverance. From the Trade Paperback edition.
