About This Item

Boston: Eastburn's Press, 1844. Fifth Edition. 8pp. 8vo. Removed; without wrappers. Scattered foxing; Very Good.

Description of American painter Washington Allston's masterpiece, Belshazzar's Feast, a monumental 12 x 16-foot historical painting begun in 1817 and left unfinished at his death in 1843. The painting was posthumously exhibited at Boston's Corinthian Gallery. The description is accompanied by the complete Biblical text that inspired the painting (Daniel 5: 1-31) and an account of the painting's restoration. The "Fifth Edition" statement is likely spurious.
