Washington: G.P.O., 1896. 4to. 95, [1] pp. Numerous plates, diagrams. Salmon-coloured printed softcovers (minor chipping to corners, some dustsoiling, edgewear, rebacked), still a VG copy. First edition of this excellent work examining the development, deployment, mountings, carriages, and cartridges and of such Machine Guns as the Gatling Gun produced by the Colt’s Arms Company, Gardner Machine Gun, and the Hotchkiss revolver cannon, which were employed by the U.S. Army through the Spanish-American War before the adoption of the Maxim.
