Today's Macy's occupies the north side of 34th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues and the convergence of Broadway and 6th Ave. is Herald Square. [BA]. "Anthony J. Bleecker (1799-1884) was the city's leading real estate agent and auctioneer. His grandfather Anthony Lispenard Bleecker, after whom Bleecker and Lispenard Streets were named, started the family business, which was continued by his son James and grandson Antho- ny J.—three generations which made the Bleeckers the oldest real estate brokerage in the city" (Museum of the City of New York exhibition, The Greatest Grid: The Master Plan of Manhattan 1811-Now, December 2011 to July 2012, in which a later, 1852, Bleecker advertising broadside was included). Broadside advertise- ments such as this are very rare.
