About This Item

London, UK Frank Cass, 1995. Hardcover First Edition, unstated. Near Fine in Very Good DJ: The Book shows light shelving wear and a touch of wear to the upper extremities as well; the binding shows barely discernible lean, but remains perfectly secure; the text is clean. The DJ shows light wear to the upper extremities and milder wear to the lower corners; very mild rubbing; nclipped; mylar-protected. Structurally sound and tightly bound, showing only very mild wear: clean, sturdy, and quite presentable. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. Folio. 211pp. Liberally illustrated with charts, graphs and photographs in black & white. Preface and Introduction by Sebastian Cox. Harris - German View by Horst Boog. The production values are high: printed on high-quality slick paper. (Studies in Air Power Series). First Edition, unstated. Hardback with DJ. It was "Bomber Harris", later Air Marshall Sir Arthur T. Harris, who ordered the bombing of Germany in retaliation for the incessant bombing of England by Hitler's Luftwaffe and rockets. He had to fight for that bombing mission not only against Americans, but against some elements of the British command. Like Montgomery, Harris has had his portrait rewritten by historians and novelists perhaps anxious to downplay the British contribution to victory over Germany in comparison to that of the Americans. The destruction of German cities and villages was frightful, many were practically obliterated by that bombing - but those missions were a key element in the allied victory.
