Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1942. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine. This copy is Number 22 of 25 specially bound presentation copies. Inscribed on the front flyleaf: "To Shirl and Murray with the best wishes of 'Ellery Queen' (Danny)". The recipients were Frederick Dannay's sister-in-law and her husband. A pioneering work, billed as the first bibliography of the detective short story. It played an important role in the acceptance of the genre as serious literature. Octavo: 146 p. Original marbled paper-covered boards over a burgundy cloth spine, with a printed paper spine label. A duplicate spine label is tipped in on the rear spine label. Just a hint of edgewear, with some mild toning to the spine label. Near fine.
