Chatto & Windus, London, 1952. 1st Edition. HARDCOVER. 1st printing. 8vo in bright orange cloth, gilt lettering to spine, 376pp, frontispiece, plus 6 other illustrations, bibliography at rear. This copy came from the prolific author, translator, literary biographer and critic J M Cohen and has his bookplate on the front paste-down end-paper, he has also signed his name dated September 1952 (a month before this book was published) and the words 'For review' along the bottom edge of the front blank fly-leaf (there are no other marks or inscriptions) __CONDITION : A well preserved FINE very clean, bright and tight copy (end-papers and page-block edges a little tanned) in a near VERY GOOD un-clipped Dust Jacket (2cm chip to head of spine panel and top edge of front panel, very small chips to base of spine panel, looks very presentable in its removable transparent protector). __NOTE. Depending on destination, this item may require an extra payment for shipping insurance.
