About This Item
[Brescia, Italy]: Johannes Gutenberg Editor, 1978. Paperback. 56p., illustrations, wraps. Covers lightly toned, some edge wear, top right corner bumped. Diary entries dated from January 1 to December 25, 1975. Part of a series of texts in which the author engages in self-historicization through an encyclopedia entry, posters, and book cover designs for fictitious biographies by famous authors (St. Augustine, Machiavelli, Henry Miller). Includes images of Cavellini's performances handwriting these texts on different surfaces, including a white suit and the skin of a naked man. Cavellini's self-historicization project was meant to provide the material for an imagined retrospective in 2014 to mark the 100th year of his birth. First published in 1975 in Italian. This English translation is dated to sometime in or after 1978 based on the list of other publications by Cavellini on the final leaf. Cavellini was a painter and collector who later in life became heavily involved in mail art, abstract art, and neo-Dadaism.
