About This Item

New York: University Books, 1966. Revised Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Large 8vo 9" - 10. The sub-title continues: A Dictionary, historical and comparative, of the heterodox speech of all classes of society for more than Three Hundred Year with synonyms in English, French, German, Italian, etc." This revised and expanded edition reprises two of the seven volumes of the original, published in seven parts between 1900 and 1904. Of the two compilers, the mysterious John S. Farmer was the principal slang expert of all time and a ranking Elizabethan-text editor. The original publication was limited only to subscribers. This has become a definitive edition. From the personal library of the noted erotophile, bibliographer, folklorist, literary sleuth and former book scout, Gershon Legman, as conveyed to me through his widow, the fabulous Judith Legman. Legman provides the Introduction, "On Sexual Speech and Slang," Bound in red cloth over boards, black lettering to spine. Printed dust wrapper, moderately worn, a couple of short, closed tears, loss of paper on rear panel, else complete, not price-clipped. xcvii [1], 2-461 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
