About This Item

1768 Dictionary of MUSIC Jean-Jacques Rousseau Enlightenment Philosophy Musique

"People who know little are usually great talkers, while men who know much say little."

Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Jean-Jacques Rousseau was an 18th-century Enlightenment philosopher whose political theories helped shape aspects of the French Revolution. And while he is much better remembered for his philosophical and political works, he wrote what became one of the best music dictionaries of the 18th-century. "The Complete Dictionary of Music" is an alphabetical lexicon of all aspects of music. It features full musical examples as well as in-text charts and descriptions. This 1768 edition was published in Paris by Duchesne.
