About This Item

Paris: Calmann Levy, 1921. Leather. Very Good Indeed. 7.5" by 5". None . A finely bound copy of Anatole France's famous novel regarding the French Revolution. A finely bound copy of Anatole France's famous novel. In the original French. With the original paper wraps bound in with the text. Les Dieux ont Soif, or The Gods are Athirst was first published in 1912. The novel is set during the French revolution and follows the infernal rise of Evarise Gamelin, a young Parisian painter. France depicts the dark years during the Reign of Terror in Paris from Year II to Year III.  Anatole France was a French poet, journalist and novelist. He had several bestselling novels and was considered to be the ideal man of letters of his age due to his ironic and sceptical nature.  In a fine quarter calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally, smart with some minor rubbing to the extremities as well as to the head and tail of spine. Rear joint is also particularly rubbed at the tail. Some handling marks to the calf portion also. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age toned, particularly to the edges due to the paper used. The odd spot throughout. Very Good Indeed

Synopsis
