This copy bears the ownership signature of Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar, likely the Georgia Superior Court judge who shot himself on July 4, 1834 when he learned that a man he had sentenced to death for murder was, in fact, innocent. An important early compilation of Georgia laws, encompassing statutes passed in the colonial era up to 1800. Includes important statutes on slaves, Indians, and lands, all extensively indexed. Earlier compilations had been printed in Philadelphia in 1800 and 1801, but the present edition is the first officially compiled by the state. Printed in Savannah, it is also a significant Georgia imprint. Marbury was Georgia Secretary of State, and Crawford later represented the state in the U.S. Senate. DE RENNE I, pp.306-8. SABIN 44475.
