Persephone Books, 2010. 1st Thus . Soft cover. Near Fine/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. First English language edition. Typical Persephone Book grey wrapper dust jacket over card covers. Endpaper reproduce Rear Windows, 1938, an artificial silk satin now held in a private collection. Very gentle edge wear to jacket, else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout. In this edition of Dimanche, the ten stories appear in order of publication, appearing in La Revue de Paris and other journals between 1934 and 1941.

Synopsis

Irène Némirovsky was born in Kiev in 1903 into a wealthy banking family and emigrated to France during the Russian Revolution. After attending the Sorbonne in Paris she began to write and swiftly achieved success with David Golder , which was followed by more than a dozen other books. Throughout her lifetime she published widely in French newspapers and literary journals. She died in Auschwitz in 1942. More than sixty years later, Suite Française , was published posthumously, for the first time, in 2006.
