Preface by author, acknowledgements and abbreviations, introduction by author, appendices, select bibliography and index. Bottle green coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Photographic dustwrapper with black and white coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. A study on whether or not in 16th century Britain that children of privilege learnt three languages  Latin, Greek and Hebrew; and, what intellectual and societal influences allowed this to happen. This rubbing of the book edges with bumping the lower book corners. Age toning and some foxing spots to the text block edges; age toning of the pages. Previous owners name has been written twice to the top edge of the front paste-down, with one being covered over in "white out" and the other being in a black coloured. A little creasing of the top dustwrapper edge and rubbing of the panels. Fading of the back strip. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [5], VI, [3], 2 - 311, [1] pages,.
