Calcutta, India: Signet Press. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Undated. 616pp. Quarter-bound in dark green cloth over green cloth-covered boards, gilt titles on spine. 8vo. Lightly rubbed bottom corners and spine ends. Top text block edge a little dusty, remaining edges just starting to tan. Endpapers starting to fox and tan. Gift presentation plate on front pastedown, dated 1957. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Dust jacket spine sun-faded, has some soiling and shelf wear, chipping to edges, mirrors book damage.
Synopsis
The Discovery of India was written by India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru during his imprisonment in 1942-1946 at Ahmednagar in the Ahmednagar Fort. Nehru was jailed for his participation in the Quit India movement along with other Indian leaders, and he used this time to write down his thoughts and knowledge about India's history.
