Universalist Paper And Book Establishment, New York, 1851; 12mo (4" x 6"), 288 pages; embossed brown cloth; gilt spine titles. An 1851 Universalist press printing of this book, first published in 1835. A compendium of the entire series of letters exchanged between Abel C. Thomas and Ezra Stiles Ely from 1833-1835 on the question of eternal punishment, which caused such widespread controversy in its day. The letters of Doctor Ely were originally published in The Philadelphian, those of Thomas in The Messenger and Universalist, except the seven concluding epistles, which appeared for the first time in the first edition of this book. Complete and verbatim in all respects with the 1835 edition, including the seven final epistles and all original pagination. Very Good Plus, clean, crisp, binding tight, sound, and square, foxing of end papers only, previous owner signature contemporary with the book on f.f.e.p.
