New York: Murray Hill Publishing Co, 1884. Pamphlet. [2], 60, [6]p., boards. 7 x 4.75 in. Bound in publisher's limp cloth, gilt stamped "Divorce" on cover. Former owner's name on front flyleaf, dated 1884. Front flyleaves and title page separated from binding. Some pages chipped. Top corner of text block chipped. Good. Dr. Foote was active in freethought and social reform circles, and in 1894 ran for US Congress as a Populist. An early proponent of women's suffrage, women's rights and birth control, Foote argues for liberal divorce laws and free love in this work. Dr. Foote, along with his son, had close relations with many nineteenth century anarchists.
