The first edition of this illustrated work describing scenes from the southern states, written by Julian Ralph. The first edition. Bound in the original cloth. Illustrated with a frontispiece and over 100 monochrome illustrations including vignettes and 31 full page illustrations. Collated complete. This work was written by author and journalist Julian Ralph. Ralph is best know for his work in 'The Sun' newspaper in New York. This work first appeared in 'Harper's Magazine'. 'Dixie' provides a description of the scenery of the southern states in America and the conditions at the time from his own experience and through the experiences of the locals. In the publisher's original cloth. Externally very smart with fading to the spine, slight bumping to the extremities resulting in a very small closed tear to the tail of the spine and the odd minor mark to the boards. Hinges tender and a bookplate to the front pastedown belonging to a 'Geo. J. Ewen-Watson' with offsetting and light spotting to the endpapers. Internally firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages with only the odd spot. Old ink inscription dated 1895 to the front blanks. Very Good
