About This Item
Richmond, Virginia: Commonwealth of Virginia, 1826. Original 1826 document signed by Governor John Tyler, who was elected Vice-President of the United States in 1840. When William Henry Harrison died after only one month in office, Tyler ascended to the Presidency and assumed full powers of that office, setting a precedent that has held since that time. This document, that reappoints Robert Kincaid as Sheriff of Alleghany County, Virginia, is signed by Tyler on December 14, 1826, is partially printed and still has the official seal of the Commonwealth of Virginia intact and attached. The seal's red color is considerably faded, but enough remains to make the image on it discernible. The document is lightly toned and has fold lines, but there are no tears or chips. Tyler's signature is bold and only slightly faded.. SIGNED. First Edition. Paper. Collectible-Very Good. 7 3/4" X 7 3/4". Manuscript.
