Satisfaction Guaranteed. In comparing how the two superpowers exercise their persuasive control over their respective spheres, this book presents collective evidence toward the startling conclusion that this dominance, as it has been practiced, is no longer in the national interest of either the United States or the Soviet Union; in fact, it is detrimental to those interest. The contributors to this volume point out that the domination system is clung to by the superpowers out of old habit reinforced by old fears. However, this work argues, attempts to maintain this system have become counterproductive and are working against the very reason for the initial establishment of spheres of influence: the preservation of order and the status quo. The experts whose work is assembled in this volume maintain that as long as the superpowers feel threatened, formal changes in the spheres are not likely, but a continual process of informal yet effective change will occur. The ramifications of this process for both the superpowers and the dependent states are discussed at length; the possibilities for a realignment in the world as well as the probability of changes in the Cold War itself are also considered.. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
