New York, New York, USA: Twayne Publishers, 1972. CC6 - A hard cover first edition withdrawn ex-library book in good+ to very good- condition. No additional printings are indicated on the back of the title page. A tight, clean, sound copy in dark red cloth covered boards with gold lettering and graphics on the spine and on the front with very minor overall shelf wear plus there is some light yellowing of the paper edges plus there is some very, very light tape staining on the outside board surfaces from where the dust jacket was taped to the boards plus there is some tape staining on the front and back endpapers plus there are the usual library stamps, label and pocket on the title page and back endpaper. The dust jacket shows very minor overall shelf wear plus it is still in the original library mylar sleeve. This is a title in the publisher's World Authors Series: A Survey of the World's Literature. A book that examines the life and successes of an Argentine author, journalist, and political figure. He was self-educated and an Argentine interpreter of the new French and American trends as represented in the writing of Benjamin Franklin and James Fenimore Cooper. He was also politically influential, appointed director of Argentine education, elected to the Senate, and later as president. He is notable for his works "Facundoe, or civilization and Barbarism," "El General," "Fray Felix Aldao," and "El Chacho." This book includes an evaluation of Facundo and also analizes many of Sormiento's contributions as promoter of an association of river Plate States. Endnotes, selected bibliography, indexed, 188p.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 5.5"x8.25". Ex-Library.
