London Toronto: William Heinemann Ltd, 1935. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition. Octavo. 270 pp, Binding tight and square, pages clean and unmarked, covers crisp, with gilt bright. Slight bump to fr forecorner upper tip, a few fox speckles on top edge text block. 6.25" x 8.4" black cloth with gilt spine and fr cover design & letters, in black & white DJ. DJ, unclipped, with wear at the top/tail spine and fr forecorners, some along fr foeedge, also closed chip tear along fr top hinge. Handles nicely in protector. .
Synopsis
W. Somerset Maugham was born in Paris in 1874. He trained as a doctor in London where he started writing his first novels. In 1926 he bought a house in Cap Ferrat, France, which was to become a meeting place for a number of writers, artists and politicians. He died in 1965.
