[African American- Film] Dorothy Dandridge Archive of 7 black and white photographs. Each photograph measures 10" x 8". Dorothy Dandridge was the first Black woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for best actress and the first Black woman on the cover of LIFE Magazine. Two 1958 original photos from the film The Decks Ran Red capture Dandridge alongside co-star James Mason. In a promotional photograph for "Moment of Danger", Dandridge poses alongside co-stars Trevor Howard and Edmund Purdom. In a press photo taken in Santa Monica, California, Dandridge is captured in a bold white gown exiting the courtroom after reaching a settlement. In a similar press image, a close up of Dandridge's visible discomfort is presented, following a caption that reads: "...Dorothy Dandridge appears almost in tears as she answered a newsmen's questions following her appearance on the witness stand in the Confidential criminal libel trial yesterday...". Another image is a movie still from The Harlem Globetrotters 1951 film starring Dandridge and Billy Brown. The final image from Carmen Jones in 1954 captures Dandridge in a floral gown alongside Harry Belafonte. Each photo bears various date stamps, pencil, and pen annotations on their versos. Clean and bright photographs, in very good condition.
