About This Item
Synopsis
Double Fold: Libraries and the Assault on Paper is a non-fiction book by Nicholson Baker that was published in April, 2001. An excerpt appeared in the July 24, 2000 issue of The New Yorker, under the title "Deadline: The Author's Desperate Bid to Save America's Past.
Reviews
An entertaining National Book Circle Award winning book about how libraries jettisoned their newspaper collections in the name of preservation (they got crappy-quality, but space-saving microform copies made up instead). There are so many great insights into the bizarro world at the Library of Congress and I'm afraid used booksellers don't get a lot of good words either. But his writing is wonderful and opinionated and I'm learning a lot about the printed word.
