About This Item
Philadelphia: The Jewish Publication Society, 1898. Hardcover. Reprinted from the just-previous Harper first issue; viii, 537p., ads for JPS merchandise, hardbound in maroon cloth boards lettered and ruled gilt, top edge gilt, a satisfactory "reading copy" with flaws as follows. Despite being firm and square, the casing is worn, smudged and silver-fished, spine lettering dim (but legible), front hinge tender with title page leaf half-detached (repair would likely distort this and adjacent leaves), table of contents page bears two owner-annotations, pastedown has two ownerships. Fair to good-only condition, a worthwhile mix of fiction (good dialogue) and history (Zangwill is generally religious, not at all sectarian).
