About This Item
[London]: [s.n.], [1765?] 3pp, [1]. Single bifolium, separated into two leaves. Docket-title to verso of second leaf. Manuscript numerals to head of p.[1], gutter partially trimmed A remarkably rare example of polemical commercial lobbying literature, issued in an attempt to influence opinion in the run up to debates and divisions in the House of Commons, regarding a controversial proposal to rebuild Newgate Prison, with two-thirds of the cost, £40,000, to be paid by the county of Middlesex. The plan was ultimately dropped, primarily due to the efforts of lawyer Sir John Hawkins (179-1789), then chairman of the Middlesex quarter sessions. ESTC records copies at only four locations in the British Isles (BL, Guildhall, NLS, and Oxford), and none elsewhere. ESTC T128228.. Folio.

Terms of Sale
Antiquates Ltd
Antiquates Ltd was established by Tom Lintern-Mole in 2007; we travel far and wide to buy, sell, and advise on rare books and manuscripts.
Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.
We have a countryside bookshop in Wareham; we also regularly issue catalogues - do ask if you would like to be added to our mailing list - and frequently exhibit at regional and national book fairs in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and York.
We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
