About This Item

Sigma, [London], first edition, 1947. Cloth, small 8vo, 19 cm,. 119 pp, 12 plates. From the blurb: "This book, written for the general reader, gives an account of some drugs, such as penicillin, ergot and opium, which ere obtained from plants. In a book of this length and character it would be impossible to discuss, or even mention all of the scores of vegetable drugs used in medicine. To make an interesting and readable account a selection has therefore been made of those which are both of scientific importance and whose histories are likely to stir the imagination of the reader. Although emphasis is laid on the historical aspect, in the conviction that this provides an easy, logical and interesting introduction to the subject, equal mention is given to accounts of modern research from both the medical and chemical aspect. With twelve pages of line and halftone illustrations. Offsetting to endpapers, Good in sunned and used dustwrapper.
