About This Item

Dublin, Waterford, & London: M.H. Gill & Son, Ltd. & Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co., Ltd., 1909. (Richard) Barry O'Brien (1847-1918) was a lawyer, historian, and journalist; politically, he was aligned with Charles Stuart Parnell. He states in the Introductory chapter, "Look then at the Irish question from every point of view; discuss it from every point of view; and we shall always have to come back to this one vital fact, the Irish people are governed by the public opinion of another country." This is a Very Good copy of the First Irish Edition (published simultaneously in England); uncommon thus. Blue cloth binding, ruled on yhe covers. Lettering on the spine and front cover is gilt. Top edge is gilt, others rough-cut. Clean text; 443 pages, indexed. Moderate amount of rubbing to the margind, corners are bumped, and the book is slightly splayed. An interesting treatise. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
