The museum owes its existence to Richard, VII Viscount Fitzwilliam of Merrion who, in 1816, bequeathed to the University of Cambridge his works of art and library, together with funds to house them, The museum opened in 1848 and is considered by many to be the finest small museum in Europe. White illustrated wraps. 120 pages with numerous illustrations in B&W and colour. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall Minor edgewear.
