Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, twenty-seven plates, many of which are in colour, and thirty-four in-text line sketches. Collated complete. A detailed exploration of the author's time in Mesopotamia, with chapters on the Venice of the East, Sinbad the Soldier, the Wise Men from the West, the waters of Babylon, Old Baghdad, and more. Written and illustrated by Donald Maxwell, an English writer and illustrator who produced over thirty works on his voyages, notable for his topographical paintings. Previously held in the library of Cedric Swinton Holland, an officer of the British Royal Navy who saw service during the First and Second World Wars, rising to the rank of vice-admiral. In the original quarter buckram binding with green cloth boards. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. Light age toning to the endpapers. Bookseller's embossed stamp to the front endpaper. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Very Good
