Bibliography, index. Bright green cloth, titles with series name stamped in black on the spine, series device on the title page. Very slight evidence of wear. In the two color illustrated dust jacket on tan paper with price $1.50 intact on the front flap: spine somewhat darkened, half-inch closed tear near the spine head, a small ink mark near the spine on the back panel. Third in The Makers of Modern Literature series. An early study from the leading literary critic. Lustig's jacket and series colophon pen-in-hand design is uncredited. Please see Purity of Aim: The Book Jacket Designs of Alvin Lustig by Ned Drew and Paul Sternberger, pp. 14-15 for the history of Lustig's design for the "Makers of Modern Literature Series." Dust jacket preserved in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
