The book ends with an account of how, through the activities of American settlers in Texas and California and the machinations of President Polk, half of Mexico was seized and the states of Texas and California, along with New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada and parts of Colorado, Kansas and Oklahoma were added to the United States..."
