Masterton, New Zealand: Palamontain & Petherick, 1927. Butler 1781-1841 built the Mission House in Kerikeri on the direction of Bishop Samuel Marsden and the auspices of the Church Missionary Society finished in 1822. Extracts deal mainly withhis work at the Bay of Islands with the last chapter on his time in Petone. pp 440 with 27 illus, mostly portrait with many being early photographs, preface and index unpaginated, printed on glossy paper. Contents includes list of places names and what they changed to, list of names of the principal cheifs in the Bay of Islands, plus a list of European children born there. CONDITION Green cloth bds, spine lightly faded else very little wear apart front slightly bumped top cnrs and small stains to rear bd, pencil name and note on contents inside front, foxed to end pages and edges though due to quality paper type interior clean, some pencil marginalia.. First Edition. Cloth. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
