About This Item

Fresno: Academy Library Guild, 1952. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. 8vo., paper over boards, 182 pgs. decorated endpapers, vignette decorations throughout the text. -- Lettering faded, light exterior wear. Some pages have light creases which on second observation appear to be a product of the type of paper used in the production of the book. Bottom corners lightly bumped. -- No other notable defects. This work is a unique historical record by Ana Begue Packman, a direct descendant of Juan Francisco Reyes, an early alcade of Los Angeles. The author begins by describing early California domestic life, native fruits and vegetables, and the use of the outdoor kitchen. Many colonial recipes are provided.
