Washington DC: Smithsonian Institute, 1965. Hardcover in very good condition, no dust jacket. Gray cloth with black title on spine, xix and 203 pages, 28cm tall, quarto, index. Many illustrations and frontispiece portrait. The 27 articles in this book describe the development of machines and mechanical skills in the United States during the first half of the 19th century. The articles were first published in "American Machinist" between 1884 and 1893, and cover the development of railroad locomotives, fire engines, paper making, and more. Covers show light wear at corners, otherwise a fine, clean copy.
