About This Item
Indiana University Book. Good. Soft cover. pp289-310. Removed from INDIANA MAGAZINE OF HISTORY, Volume 48, No. 3, September, 1952. In report covers. G. Morris Birkbeck, George Flower, and Flower's cousin, Elias Pym Fordham, were travelling in Indiana in the early 1800's. Birkbeck wrote about his travels in his well known book NOTES ON A JOURNEY IN AMERICA. A man named William Faux also came to the same area in 1819 and wrote about his travels in his book MEMORABLE DAYS IN AMERICA. Additional information about these travelers during periods in which they were staying in Princeton, besides that given in their books and letters home, may be found in three ledgers of Princeton business firms of the period that are still extant: Jones and Stockwell, the largest general store of the day in Princeton, and Basil Brown's Tavern, also in Princeton..
