About This Item

Five Panamanian printings gifted to Mariano Felipe Paz Soldan in Lima by the Panamanian patriot Mariano Arosemena de la Barrera (Panama, 1794 - Lima, 1866), two of which emerged from Panama's emerging independence movements coming out of Nueva Granada. The Arosemena family had a sphere of influence in Nueva Granada and had little choice but to do work for the Independence of Panama. The sons of Don Mariano Arosemena de la Barrera were: Mariano Jr. (printed I-III), a diplomat and the other, Justo, was the main Panamanian hero who achieved the independence of Panama and later obtained the presidency of that country. The family lived for a long time in Lima, likely as a matter of political exile and protection. No holdings for any of these imprints on WorldCat.

LA INDEPENDENCIA DEL ISTMO, QUE EN OTROS TIEMPOS TUVO PARTIDARIOS PORQUE EL GOBIERNO NACIONAL NO COMPRENDÍA LOS INTERESES DE AQUEL…HABITANTES DE PANAMA, LA PROVIDENCIA DIVINA NOS HA PRESERVADO DE UN GOLPE DE SORPRESA.
