About This Item
Toronto: McClelland & Stewart, 1963. This book is volume one of 'The Canadian Centenary Series' (a history of Canada in seventeen volumes). The Canadian Centenary Series is a comprehensive history of the peoples and lands which form the Dominion of Canada. Each volume is complete in itself. Professor Oleson of the University of Manitoba, is the foremost authority on Canada's early Arctic history. Professor Oleson's purpose is to examine how explorers, settlers and hunters from Norway, part of the great movement of the Vikings in the eighth and ninth centuries, made their way across the North Atlantic and formed contact with the lands of the Canadian Arctic. This northern route became one by which fishermen, traders and explorers from England made their way into the Canadian north. 211 pp including: Bibliography, Appendix A - List of Persons taking part in the Vinland Voyages, Appendix B - Chronology of the Early Voyages, Appendix C - Captions to Illustrations, and Index. Illustrated with maps, drawings and 16 b/w plates. A very informative and interesting history of Canada's early Arctic.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Good. Canadian Centenary Series + Canadian Arctic + Canadian History + Early Voyages + Norsemen + Vikings + Explorers + Vinland Voyages + NOISBN. Catalogs: Canadiana.
