About This Item

London: Michael Joseph Ltd. , 1940 . First edition. Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. 7.5" by 5". None. The first edition, first impression of this novel by well renowned English author C. S. Forester. First edition of The Earthly Paradise by Cecil Louis Troughton Smith, writing using his pen name C. S. Forester. In the original publisher's cloth binding and unclipped dust wrapper. Forester was an English author of the twentieth century best known for his adventure tales of naval warfare. This is one of his later novels, which strays from his typical storytelling and is a historical novel featuring the fictional character Don Narciso Rich, who accompanies Christopher Columbus on his third voyage. Prior owner's ink inscription to the first free endpaper. In the original publisher's cloth binding and unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. There is some wear to the extremities of the dust wrapper, including a few small closed tears, some creasing, and light marking and age toning. There is also some water damage to the inner leaves and tape marks. To the binding, there is some slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. The hinges are slightly strained but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the first free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with some light age toning. Very Good
