About This Item
8vo, rebound, brown morocco spine and corners, and cloth, top edge gilt, illustrated, map at rear, [xx], 338 pp. Binding by Bayntun, lacks half title, else near fine. In March 1898 John Henry Paterson arrived in East Africa to build a railway bridge over the Tsavo River. During the next nine months two male lions stalked a mostly Indian workforce and killed and devoured over 100 of them. Eventually the lions were killed, and are today still on exhibit at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.
