Edinburgh: David Douglas 1896/1897, 1896. First edition. Three volumes. 8vo. 260x175mm. Vol. I. 1896, pp. xiv, 484; Vol. II. 1896, pp. xx. 564; Vol. III. 1897, pp. xiv, 650. Illustrated extensively throughout with engravings. Original navy blue cloth. Arts and Crafts style thistle motif in gilt on upper covers. Lettered in gilt on spines. The front pastedowns have a label for A Louis de Meuleneere, 21, Rue du Chene, Bruxelles. This firm was a great Brussels booksellers and predecessor to Tulkens from where these volumes were bought when it closed in 2008. The book was in storage there from the date of publication, hence it is in fine condition with many of the leaves unopened. A particularly good example of the standard reference work on the subject from an interesting source.
