A. Complete in six volumes. First edition. Printed by Law and Gilbert, London, 1810. The books measure 5" x 8.5". Bound in printer's original half half over marbled boards. Marbled fore-edges and endsheets. The set is in overall very good antiquarian condition. Some wear to the leather at the hinges, most especially to the corners and spine of Volume I; With dings to the board edges. Previous owner's bookplate on all front paste-downs. Slight paper loss at some of the endhseets. Foxing to the fore-edges, preliminary and terminal pages and at some of the text. The hinges are starting. The textblocks are largely, clean, bright, unmarked, and complete. The bindings are tight. The biographies contained in this set are: Volume I: Wickliffe, Thorpe, Cobham, Wolsey, Volume II: Bilney, More, Tindall, Cromwell, Rogers, Hooper, Taylor, Volume III: Latimer, Ridley, Cranmer, Volume IV: Jewel, Gilpin, Hooker, Whitgift, Donne, Herbert, Volume V: Wotton, Ferrar, Hall, Hammond, Sanderson, Baxter, Volume VI: Hale, Henry, Rochester, Tillotson. Written by Christopher Wordsworth, brother of the famous poet William Wordsworth. He was the Master of Trinity College, Oxford, from 1820-1841.
