About This Item
Hodder & Stoughton, 1963. Hardcover. Good/Good. h/b 188 pages, condition is good, this is an ex library book with the usual stamps. Margaret King's first visit to Portuguese Timor was intended to be only a short stop on the way to Melville Island, but she liked the place so much and found it so interesting that she not only decided to spend her whole vacation carrying out research there, but returned on a second visit. The first section of the book is devoted to general impressions of the country and people. In the second part Miss King describes in detail all aspects of the Timorean way of life with special attention to music, song and dance, arts and crafts, religion, laws and customs. A fascinating and little known part of the world is beautifully documented by the author's own lavish illustrations.
