About This Item

Rare, half-leather hardback copyright circa 1878 by T.B. Peterson & Brothers, Philadelphia; first thus; only copyright date listed is that of G.W. Noble in 1849, but book appears to be a later reprint by Peterson with no effective date listed, hence date of 1878 obtained from identical volume on WorldCat; contains two novels, the title work and also "The Three Guardsmen; or, The Feats and Adventures of a Gascon Adventurer" by Alexandre Dumas (though the authorship is questionalble, as critics insist an American author wrote these works under Dumas' name); well preserved withdrawal from college library with usual stamps and stickers; text block and boards tight and square; green cloth boards remarkably well preserved; leather spine has four raised bands; sunning to spine and upper 1.5 inches of leather board; leather corners show rubbing (see photo); catalogue of Peterson's other publications between first and second novels and at rear of book; three internal pages tape-repaired at corners; 450 clean pages, lightly tanned from age 5-BNB-2-BK.
