About This Item

Porto Alegre, Brasil: Museu de Arte do Rio Frande do Sul Ado Malagoli, 2003. b/w and color plates, bio/chron., color pict. boards, color pict. d.j. Working simultaneously with painting and photography Viera da Cunha (b. Brazil, 1956) has sought to establish bridges between these two means of expression. His themes bring memories and evocation of loss, mingled with a lyrical and solitary world, from an autobiographical point of view. They go further in questioning of painting within the field of art. He often selects ex voto images because they have a popular and Brazilian origin and engages them in dialogue with the photographic. Retrospective monograph unites his major series/themes. He received his MFA in photography at Brooklyn College and the guidance of Phillip Pearlstein. He received the "Bernard Shaw" and the Brooklyn College Foundation awards and many prestigious awards in Brazil. ENGLISH AND PORTUGUESE TEXTS.
