About This Item

Albuquerque: University of New Mexico, 1986. "A True Story" of a Cherokee youth by Forest Carter (pseudonym for Asa Earl Carter, d. 1979), that is now regarded as a fabrication. Foreword by Rennard Strickland. Cover illustration by Katherine Potter. Once an incredibly popular book, controversy errupted in the early 1990's with charges that Carter had once been a member of the Ku Klux Klan, and perhaps was not Native American at all. This is a Fine copy of the First Softbound Edition Thus. This copy is in unread, As New condition and is still in the shrinkwrap shipping plastic. Whatever the truth of the matter, Carter was a talented writer who was also responsible for the character Josey Wales, made into an iconic Clint Eastwood movie. An interesting read and now uncommon in collectible condition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Thus.. Soft Cover. Fine/No Jacket. Illus. by Katherine Porter.
