The University of Chicago Press, 1930. Hardcover. Good. Volume 1 only. Folio. xxiv, 596, viii. Original brown cloth with dark brown spine. Gilt lettering to spine. Boards lightly worn especially at extremities. Bumping to corners. Hinges cracked reinforced with binding tape. Ex-library stamps and markings. Interior pages are clean, unmarked and in very good condition. <br><br> Volume one covers hieroglyphic transliterations, translation and commentary. The papyrus is named after Edwin Smith, who purchased the document in January 1862 during his stay at Thebes. The papyrus is the oldest known surgical treatise and consists entirely of case reports focusing on trauma and surgery. James Henry Breasted provided the first translation of the papyrus. The translation changed the history of medicine. <br>Ships daily.This is an oversized or heavy book that requires additional postage for international delivery outside of Canada and the US.
