About This Item
London: Allison & Busby, 1972. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. Fine First British Edition copy of Montagu's fascinating study of John Merrick life, affliction and death. 8vo, 140pp, in publisher's blue/grey cloth with gilt to the spine. Minor bumping to the spine ends otherwise clean and square. The fragile, uncoated, yellow paper jacket is Very Good, price clipped, some fading to the spine, minor soiling to the back cover. A nice copy of an insightful look into "the most disgusting specimen of humanity that I have ever seen" and a man of rare personal courage and dignity in the face of appalling odds.
