Liveright hard cover with dust jacket, 7th printing 1943 (stated), 377 + 480 pages. 8vo (5.5"" x 8.5"") Complete text of the original two volume limited edition, privately printed on subscription for the Athenian Society in London, now in one volume. Aristophanes wrote over 40 plays, but only 11 have survived. Here they are in all their glory, with all the sexual and scatological references so frankly rendered into English that the original translators had to be anonymous. Each play comes with an introduction and notes. They are: The Knights; The Acharnians; Peace; Lysistrata; The Clouds; The Wasps; The Birds; The Frogs; The Thesmophoriazusae; The Ecclesiazusae; and Plutus.
